City Asphalt
City Asphalt Ltd has been a family-run business and a reputable name in Surfacing since 1970 and is today run by Alex Gardner, Surfacing Director. City Asphalt has its roots in the road surfacing market. Working as either a sub-contractor or as a principal contractor, the Company has access to its supply chain of extensive asphalt plants, proprietary materials and laboratories. Whilst the Company is based in Nottingham, the availability of mobile plants and a flexible workforce enable City Asphalt to take on contracts nationwide. The geographical coverage is complimented by our range of services including Airfields, Highways, Commercial, Local Authority and Infrastructure schemes.
We also provide a small works service which covers minor excavations, all types of kerbing and drainage jobs as well as any category of asphalt and macadam surfacing work.
In 2005, City Asphalt joined forces with Thomas Bow and the two became sister companies. Working closely from the same premises and operating in allied industries they are able to pool their technical abilities. Both companies have and continue to complete many prestigious contracts within the Public, Commercial and Private sectors, operating with a well-structured management team throughout the UK.
Since 2005, City Asphalt has been undertaking the surfacing of not only that its own clients, but also for clients of Thomas Bow, which includes works for numerous Term and Framework Highway Maintenance and Repair contract for local authorities across the UK, these include Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire County Councils, along with Nottingham City and Kirklees Councils to name but a few.
More recently, City Asphalt and Thomas Bow decided the time was now right for the two companies to re-brand in order to bring together their close ties and present a more transparent image of the company overall to its clients and workforce, as a direct result the Thomas Bow City Asphalt construction group was established in August 2010. In joining forces, the two companies have now become a major player in the Highways Maintenance arena.
The Thomas Bow City Asphalt group are members of CECA and Constructionline and have achieved BS EN ISO 9001:2008 and BS EN ISO 14001:2004. More recently, Thomas Bow City Asphalt was delighted to have gained NHSS Sector 16 Accreditation. This latest addition for contractors who undertake works to the highway is now stipulated by numerous local authorities including Derbyshire County Council and whilst not yet compulsory, our accreditation means that ALL works are completed to this same high standard regardless of size and location.
With a comprehensive Health & Safety policy, they have achieved full accreditation with CHAS as Principal Contractors.
Committed to the training and continual professional development of their teams, the companies are members of the CITB and Construction Skills, and as Equal Opportunities employers they frequently work in partnership with local authorities in the development of apprenticeships and training programmes.
"Our Group aspire to be first choice for Civil Engineering & Surfacing, combining a skilled workforce with the latest technology & traditional values."
